CARDIGAN
A wool sweater that is buttoned down the front, named after J.T. Brudenell, the British count of Cardigan (1797-1868). During the Siege of Sebastopol, Brudenell ordered his undermanned cavalry to confront the Russian infantry. A massacre for the British forces (October 25, 1854) and became known to history as the “Charge of the Light Brigade.”
